A Few Important Precautions
Never place an unsecured glass container where it could fall or become a hazard while driving. Salt can also be corrosive to metal when it becomes wet, so avoid spilling it on seats, carpets, electrical components, or metal surfaces.
If your car constantly has foggy windows, damp carpets, or a musty smell, check for water leaks, blocked drains, wet floor mats, or problems with the ventilation system rather than relying on salt alone.
Other Ways to Reduce Moisture
For a drier car interior, remove wet items promptly, allow the vehicle to air out when appropriate, keep the windows and door seals clean, and use the vehicle’s air-conditioning and defogging system correctly.
So, while the “glass of salt in the car” trick isn’t a miracle solution, it has a real scientific basis and can serve as a small extra measure against excess humidity—provided it is used safely.
