Simple Peach Compote for Winter – Easy Homemade Recipe

  • Peach compote is one of the easiest and most delicious ways to preserve the fresh taste and wonderful aroma of peaches for the winter months. This homemade drink is naturally fruity, refreshing, and pleasantly sweet. It requires only a few simple ingredients and does not take much time to prepare.
  • If you have fresh, ripe peaches during the summer season, this is a great recipe to prepare in advance. Once sealed properly, the jars can be stored in a cool place and enjoyed during the colder months. Peach compote can be served chilled as a refreshing drink, or enjoyed at room temperature with homemade desserts, pastries, or a light snack.
  • 📖 Ingredients
  • For one 3-liter jar, you will need:
  • 800 g fresh peaches
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 2,500 ml water
  • Choose peaches that are ripe and fragrant but still firm enough to hold their shape. Very soft or overripe peaches may become mushy during preparation and storage.
  • 🧑🏻‍🍳 Preparation
  • 1. Prepare the peaches
  • Wash the peaches thoroughly under cool running water to remove any dirt or residue. Cut each peach in half and carefully remove the pit. Then cut the peach flesh into large slices.
  • There is no need to make the slices perfectly identical. Larger pieces are ideal because they maintain a better texture after being preserved in the jar. If the peach skin is clean and tender, you can leave it on. However, if you prefer a smoother compote, you can peel the peaches before cutting them.
  • 2. Fill the jar
  • Before starting, make sure that the 3-liter glass jar has been thoroughly sterilized. Place the prepared peach slices inside the jar, arranging them evenly without pressing them down too firmly.
  • Add 200 g of sugar directly to the jar. The amount of sugar can be adjusted slightly according to the natural sweetness of the peaches and your personal preference.
  • Next, carefully pour boiling water into the jar until it is filled to the top. Pour the water slowly to reduce the risk of the glass cracking because of the sudden temperature change.
  • 3. Seal the jar
  • Immediately cover the jar with a sterilized lid and seal it tightly. Once the jar is closed, carefully turn it upside down several times. This helps the sugar dissolve and allows the contents to mix evenly.
  • Then leave the jar upside down, with the lid facing downward, and allow it to cool completely. To help maintain a steady temperature, you can cover the jar with a clean towel or blanket while it cools.
